Sauna Rules, Risk Acceptance & Liability Waiver

By attending your booking, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to the terms below.

1. Nature of the Sauna Experience

The sauna experience provided is a wood-fired sauna located outdoors on the shore of Loch Ard. This is an outdoor experience where conditions may vary due to weather, terrain, water temperature, depth, visibility, tides, currents, and other natural factors. The sauna is intended as a wellness experience involving exposure to high heat in a shared environment, and may at times be guided.

2. Acknowledgement of Sauna Risks

I acknowledge that sauna use involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:

  • Exposure to high temperatures and steam

  • Burns from hot surfaces, the stove, stones, steam, or equipment

  • Slips, trips, and falls on wet surfaces or from higher benches

  • Dehydration, dizziness, nausea, or fainting

  • Increased heart rate and changes in blood pressure

  • Exacerbation of pre-existing medical conditions

I understand that not all risks can be eliminated.

3. Health Declaration

I confirm that I am in good physical and mental health and do not have any medical condition that would make sauna use unsafe, including but not limited to:

  • Heart or circulatory conditions

  • High or low blood pressure

  • Respiratory conditions

  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders

  • Pregnancy

  • Diabetes

  • Inability to regulate body temperature

  • Skin infections, open wounds, or infectious illness

  • Use of medication that may impair judgement, thermoregulation, or cardiovascular response

I understand that it is my responsibility to consult a GP or medical professional if I have any doubts about my suitability to participate.

4. Sauna Rules & Etiquette

  • At least two clean towels are required: one to sit on and place your feet on in the sauna, and one to dry off after.

  • Swimwear must be worn at all times. Nudity is not permitted.

  • Shower or rinse before entering the sauna; do not enter the sauna dirty.

  • Do not wear creams, oils, or lotions.

  • Remove jewellery before entering.

  • Taking breaks between sauna sessions is recommended.

  • Leave immediately if you feel unwell, dizzy, faint, or uncomfortable.

  • Floors may be wet — enter and exit carefully.

  • No footwear is permitted inside the sauna.

  • Keep all access and exit points clear at all times.

  • Be respectful of others in shared sessions.

5. Stove, Water & Ritual Safety

  • The stove, stones, flue, and guards are extremely hot and must never be touched.

  • Guests must never add wood to the stove.

  • Only use the provided ladle and sauna water on the stones.

  • Pour water gently and intermittently, only when others are seated.

  • Do not pour water while others are standing.

  • Begin pouring further away and bring the ladle towards your body to reduce the risk of steam burns.

  • Do not place anything other than water onto the stones.

  • During manned sessions, the operator manages the stove, water, and ritual flow.

6. Sauna Rituals & Infusions

Sauna rituals (including aromatherapy, plants, herbs, salts, or guided heat sessions) are optional and are performed only by a qualified Sauna Master.

  • Guests must not bring or use their own essential oils, fragrances, herbs, or products in the sauna. We cannot guarantee the quality, safety, or suitability of external products.

  • All products used during a ritual will be clearly disclosed at the start of the session.

  • It is your responsibility to inform the Sauna Master before the ritual begins if you have:

    • Allergies or sensitivities

    • Respiratory conditions

    • Skin reactions

    • Emotional or psychological sensitivities related to scent, memory, or sensory exposure

  • Sauna rituals may involve significantly higher heat, steam, and intensity than standard sauna use.

  • You are responsible for monitoring your own response and may leave the sauna at any time during a ritual without explanation.

Participation in rituals is entirely voluntary and at your own risk.

7. Behaviour & Conduct

  • Alcohol, drugs, smoking, and vaping are prohibited.

  • Anyone who appears intoxicated or poses a safety risk may be refused entry or asked to leave without refund.

  • Respectful behaviour toward staff, guests, and the environment is required at all times.

8. Assumption of Liability – Sauna

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I accept full responsibility for my use of the sauna, including participation in any sauna rituals, and waive, release, and discharge the sauna owners, operators, staff, volunteers, and agents from any claims arising from sauna use, except where caused by gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

9. Bucket Shower Use

A loch-fed bucket shower is provided as part of the sauna experience.

  • Use is optional and undertaken at my own discretion.

  • The water is unheated and may be cold.

  • I acknowledge risks including cold shock, slipping, dizziness, and imbalance.

  • I will not use the bucket shower if I feel unwell or unsafe.

Use of the bucket shower is at my own risk.

10. Independent Loch Entry Disclaimer

Loch Ard is a natural body of water and is not part of the services provided.

  • Any entry into the loch is entirely voluntary and undertaken independently and at my own risk.

  • The sauna operators do not supervise, manage, monitor, or provide lifeguard services for loch entry.

  • Risks include cold water shock, hypothermia, drowning, tides, currents, depth changes, poor visibility, submerged hazards, uneven ground, and rapidly changing conditions.

  • Emergency services may be limited or delayed.

Choosing to enter the loch is a personal decision and is not required or instructed as part of the sauna experience.

11. Swimming Ability & Conduct

  • I confirm that I am a capable swimmer.

  • I will never enter the loch alone.

  • I will assess conditions for myself before entering.

  • Children may not enter the loch unless expressly permitted and supervised.

12. Exclusion of Liability – Loch

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I acknowledge that the sauna operators accept no responsibility or liability for any injury, illness, loss, or death arising from entry into the loch.

13. Personal Property

I am responsible for my personal belongings. No liability is accepted for loss, theft, or damage.

14. Right of Refusal

Admission may be refused or a session ended for health, safety, behavioural, or environmental reasons. Refunds will not be issued in these circumstances.

15. Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 48 hours in advance.

  • Late cancellations are not eligible for a refund (admin fees may apply).

  • Sessions may be cancelled by the operator due to safety or weather, in which case a refund or credit will be offered.

16. Governing Law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Scotland.
